"To those who believed" in Jesus, "he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1v12). It's believing in Jesus, the Son of God, that means someone is a Christian - not going to Church.
You could go to church every week and not be a Christian - or never go, and be a Christian. |
But... |
If you're a Christian, why wouldn't you go to church?!
|
Remember... |
Christians are imperfect people like everyone else. As Jesus put it: "It isn't the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I haven't come to call the righteous [people who think they're sorted], but sinners [people who know they're not" (Mark 2v17).
People in church are no better than people who aren't. So we shouldn't demand that church should be perfect, or that churchgoers should never mess up. |
Having said that... |
Some churches are welcoming communities who try to point people to someone who is perfect - Jesus - in an engaging, relevant way. Others... well, lets be honest, some churches aren't particularly welcoming or relevant, and don't focus on Jesus.
So if you've got negative ideas about church, it's worth finding one which is welcoming and Jesus-centred, and giving it a go before you give up on the whole church idea. |
"Being a Christian is just a bit dull. For example: Why are Christians so negative about sex?"
|
"It's time the Church got real. Surely science has disproved Christianity?"
